What is Two-Factor Authentication?

2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security you can add to your online accounts. When you use 2FA, it makes it much harder for someone else to hijack your accounts and the sensitive data they may hold. When 2FA is turned on, logging in requires not only your password but also a second factor (for example, a code sent to your phone number or email address).

Think of it like a lock that requires two keys: one that you already have (your password) and one that changes constantly (a verification code). By using both keys together, you’re keeping your account and personal information more secure. 2FA is a simple but powerful way to protect your data from hackers and identity thieves.

Why do I need 2-Factor Authentication?

2-Factor Authentication provides extra protection for your account and personal information by requiring an additional form of verification for anyone attempting to log on. While this might sound inconvenient, consider this:

If a hacker manages to get hold of your password through a data breach, phishing attack, or simply by guessing, 2FA will keep them from accessing your account. Only someone who can access the second form of verification (like a one-time code or a fingerprint scan) will be able to log in. With data breaches and cyber attacks happening so often, passwords alone aren’t enough to keep your accounts safe. 2FA adds that crucial extra step, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized access and giving you greater peace of mind.

How does Guardio help?

Guardio will alert you any time you visit an account that doesn’t have 2-Factor Authentication in use, and provide recommendations on how to resolve the issue and improve your online security. Whenever we detect this, you’ll get a notification on your browser in real-time. You’ll also be able to see which accounts are vulnerable from the Recommendations page of your Dashboard.
