What does it mean when Guardio tells me my credentials were stolen by Malware?

If you received an alert from Guardio that some of your personal information was stolen by malware, it most likely means your computer was infected with an infostealer before the Guardio extension was installed on your computer browser. This could have happened from accidentally downloading a malicious file, clicking a link on a phishing email, or from visiting a harmful website.

Once an infostealer infects your computer, it will sit in the background and wait until it has the opportunity to collect personal data like usernames, passwords, browsing history, or credit card numbers. An infostealer will often take this data and sell it on the dark web, so if you’ve been affected by an infostealer and your personal data has been leaked, you can still act fast to lower your risk of identity theft and fraud. Follow these instructions to protect yourself.
