Your monitoring list is the list of personal details (email addresses and phone numbers) that we monitor for you. Guardio constantly scans the internet and the dark web to find your personal data anywhere it shouldn’t be - for example, in a data breach or for sale on the dark web. Most of this data is either tied to your email address or phone number, and that’s why Guardio monitors these for you.
Why should I add my email and phone number to my monitoring list?
Think of an online account you have, like a social media account, pizza delivery, or a shopping site. You almost certainly used your email address or phone number to open these accounts. And there’s a good chance you also entered several other pieces of information, like your credit card details, passwords, address, and maybe even your SSN.
Let’s say a shopping site you’ve used is hacked, and customer details are stolen and posted on the dark web. This is a data leak. Guardio will find you in this data leak with one or more of the details on your monitoring list, like your email address. We will then be able to tell you that the hackers also stole your credit card details, billing address, password, and date of birth.
In other words, the details you add to your monitoring list help us locate your leaked personal data, monitor your identity, and alert you the moment any of your data has been compromised. So the more details you add, the more effective your identity monitoring will be and the more protected you’ll be from fraud and identity theft.
How do I add more details?
From the mobile app:
- Open the Guardio app on your mobile device
- Tap on “Identity Monitoring”
- Under "Monitoring List", select “Email” or “Phone”
- Tap "Add another"
- At this point, you can add an additional email address or phone number for Guardio to monitor.
- After entering a new email or phone number, you’ll receive a verification email or SMS code, and you’ll need to verify that the email or phone number belongs to you.
From the browser extension:
- Open your Dashboard.
- Click “Identity”
- Under "Monitoring List", click “Add Source”
- At this point, you can add an additional email address or phone number for Guardio to monitor.
- After entering a new email or phone number, you’ll receive a verification email or SMS code, and you’ll need to verify that the email or phone number belongs to you.
